Senate leaders await analysis of GOP health bill

The agency estimated that about one-sixth of the population – more than 50 million people – live in states that would make substantial changes under the waivers. The bill goes next to the Senate.

Gov. Mary Fallin released a statement on Wednesday afternoon, calling the budget not ideal and warning about its short-sightedness.

In continued haggling between the two chambers on Tuesday, though, anti-abortion forces did win potentially up to $20 million more of state funds for “pregnancy crisis centers”, which advise against abortion, he confirmed. The bill, House Bill 2410, passed 84-39 on Thursday, after an hours-long debate the day before.

Nevertheless, the latest version came out of a conference committee made up of leaders of the House and Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee. “Unfortunately, the Senate walked away and left the problems facing our schools to keep getting worse”, he said. It aims to close projected budget shortfalls totaling $887 million over two years and increase aid to public schools after the state Supreme Court ruled in March that education funding is inadequate.

The House bill’s changes to Medicaid lost the support of moderate Republicans in that chamber, and may prove a tough issue in the Senate. “I refuse to give up”.

“We’ve had a lot of discussions and now the timing is serious about the drafting process and that’ll of course take some time”, Thune said. The Senate made those schools ineligible. “Ladies and gentlemen, the budget is closed”.

One of the wild-card options boosted by the CBO’s tarnishing of the House bill is a measure written by Republican Sens. John Unger, D-Berkeley/Jefferson, said of the version of the bill approved by the House. Taylor said the deliberations were necessary because the House change was not substantive enough for the Senate. “There was a source of funding”, he said.

Due to the unique political system in Texas, the state legislature only actually meets once every two years, for a maximum of 140 days.

Both of those measures died in the House, where Straus has called the issue “manufactured and unnecessary” and has raised concerns about the economic fallout that could follow passage of bathroom-related legislation.

They have said they want to replace it with a program that repeals most Obamacare taxes, reduces federal spending in the Medicaid insurance program for the poor and leaves more decisions up to the states. The House adopted Zerwas’ proposal, 101-45.

The motion upset Rep. The motion failed 47-89.

Some senators warned that school finance reform won’t ever pass unless school choice is part of the picture.

“It’s a net tax decrease after it’s fully implemented”, said Sen.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says that whatever the report shows, it’s unacceptable to retain former President Barack Obama’s health care law.

The Senate also added what public school advocates call a poison pill, a voucher option for students with disabilities to use public money for private schools.

“The real hard issue that we’ll have to deal with next week will have to be the tax issue as to how much do we need to both stabilize and balance the budget and fund a school finance bill”, said Senate Majority Leader Anthony Hensley, D-Topeka. The House bill will serve as a “foundation” for the Senate measure, with some of the same themes incorporated, said Sen.
