Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh made a historic appearance on national television Monday night to take on accusations of sexual assault.
“I never sexual assaulted anyone”, he said. His accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, will testify before him in the open session.
The judge said he never had sexual intercourse “or anything close to (it)” until long after he left Georgetown Prep, the elite all-boys Catholic high school he attended in Rockville, Maryland. “They know it’s a con game”, he said.
MARTIN: Kavanaugh and his first accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, will both testify separately in front of a congressional committee Thursday.
On Kavanaugh, Trump stressed: “I am with him all the way”. This is what the president had to say yesterday.
Ahead of the hearing with Ford, Republicans have been rallying to Kavanaugh’s defense, accusing Democrats of waging a “smear campaign” against the appellate judge and stressing that there should be a presumption of innocence. And she says, ‘Well it might not be him.’ And there were gaps. Sara, thanks for being on the show this morning. He said in a recent letter that the smaller room would help avoid a “circus atmosphere”, and Ford herself has sought to limit the number of TV cameras and journalists covering the event. Did he sound to you as though he was parsing his words carefully? “She doesn’t know if it was him but it might have him”. I’ve known him professionally and socially. “I have faith in God and I have faith in the fairness of the American people”.
Kavanaugh has denied the allegation along with that of Blasey Ford. When asked Tuesday if there should be a full FBI investigation about the claims, she said: “Well, it would sure clear up all the questions, wouldn’t it?” Last week, he lampooned Ford’s allegation that an inebriated Kavanaugh trapped her beneath him on a bed at a high school house party and tried to take her clothes off before she escaped.
She told the New Yorker Magazine that the incident happened while they were both students at Yale. And she has character witnesses. All three told investigators that they had no recollection of the evening in question, the committee said. “No one is trying to hide from this.in fact, Brett Kavanaugh has been leaning in”.
He said he was not present at a party like the one described by Ford and noted that others Ford said were at the gathering had no recollection of it.
“I was never at any such party”, he said on Fox News.
But far more commonly, people genuinely believe things that aren’t true or, at least, can’t be corroborated. “The White House stands firmly behind Judge Kavanaugh”. I have no idea; what I know is that sometimes, they do. “I think it’s important to have the hearing, to get this out on the record and then to move on from there”. Bob Corker is questioning the credibility of the latest allegation by Ramirez. It’s on Kavanaugh to prove that he’s a good nominee and there are no red flags against him. This is not fun, and it’s not a pathway to a better life – just the opposite.
“There’s no particular expertise that a questioner is going to have in this situation”, said Sen. Kavanaugh insisted that he’s not withdrawing his nomination and said, “I want a fair process where I can defend my integrity”. Why do they attack political or personal rivals with falsehoods that would, if exposed, end up destroying them instead?
It’s rare for nominees to the Supreme Court to give any interviews at all.
