Sarasota-Bradenton airport among those with canceled flights as Hurricane Irma approaches

Florida’s gas shortages keep getting worse as millions of motorists flee Hurricane Irma’s path of destruction. The Fort Worth-based carrier said it has canceled more than 2,500 flights as of Friday stretching through September 11. Combined with cancellations in the Caribbean, almost 6,000 flights have been axed since Irma began affecting flights.

American Airlines has canceled all flights at SRQ between noon Saturday and 11 a.m. Monday, and Elite Airways has canceled its Sunday flights.

Flight tracking website FlightAware reports almost 7,000 flights in or out of Florida were cancelled.
