Donald Trump defends US Supreme Court nominee accused of sexual assault

Ford said Monday she would be willing to testify before the Senate, but later said she would not want to speak to senators until the FBI investigates the alleged incident.

“At the end of the meeting, I told her that I believed her”, she added. Judge says he won’t appear before the committee. She told The Washington Post that Judge watched and laughed as Kavanaugh tried to remove her clothes and held his hand over her mouth so she couldn’t scream. “So the world does not come to an end because we don’t fill all of the nominees”.

Carlson said he was told by a senior US official that the FBI will not investigate because what Ford is alleging is not a federal crime.

“I have never done anything like what the accuser describes to her or to anyone”, the 53-year-old conservative federal appeals court judge said. Other Republicans are suggesting that Ford will have only this one opportunity to testify. It also makes sense that Chuck Grassley and the Republicans on the committee are loathe to agree, since any delay means potentially pushing the nomination to the other side of the midterms, when the Senate makeup might look very different. “The invitation for Monday still stands”. Ford has said Judge witnessed the alleged assault.

Some Democratic lawmakers have also called for an FBI investigation.

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said he had “a lot of questions” for Kavanaugh. “They are perfectly capable of conducting an investigation which then becomes foundational for the hearing”.

“And so this whole thing is: You have the power of the White House, Kavanaugh over here”.

The development came after President Donald Trump showered sympathy on his embattled nominee and as Senate Republicans and Democrats fought determinedly over who should testify at a high-stakes hearing on the allegation just six weeks before major congressional elections.

Balsamo reported from NY. Feinstein later announced she had given the letter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Kavanaugh and the friend, Mark Judge, attended Georgetown Prep. Earlier, she hinted that she was watching this unfold to determine whether Kavanaugh had been truthful with her, with a failure in that regard as “disqualifying”. Kavanaugh has denied the allegation.

‘This is a completely false allegation. And Kavanaugh’s friend, whom Ford says was in the room during the alleged incident, says the attack didn’t happen.

Sen. Diane Feinstein of California, the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, cosigned Ford’s request for an investigation. She told WVOM Radio in ME it would “not be fair to Judge Kavanaugh”, if Ford does not come forward and testify. “We are really under the impression that the Senate doesn’t take this seriously and doesn’t see this as part of their core responsibility”.

Democrats complain that Ford was not consulted before the hearing was announced. Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley had invited the woman-Dr.

He said he was “disturbed” to hear that she had been facing threats and harassment, but urged her to speak before the committee.

“It’s impossible to take this process seriously”, Feinstein said.

But Jones says the FBI is well-equipped to conduct a quick investigation and interview potential witnesses.

Mr Grassley’s letter states that Prof Ford has until Friday morning to provide the committee with her prepared testimony and biography if she plans to testify next Monday.

The legal team’s letter says that Prof Ford’s family has been forced to move out of their home, her email has been hacked and she has been impersonated online. “We’re better than this”. Overall, there are now 23 women in the Senate: 17 Democrats and six Republicans.

However, Senator Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Republican-dominated judiciary committee, said Tuesday that Ford’s presence was not confirmed.

What Republicans are doing to Dr. Ford is shameful.
