On Sunday, Adele set a new record at the GRAMMYs by becoming the first artist to ever sweep Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year, twice.
Singer Adele, who was honoured with the Album Of The Year award at the 59th annual Grammy Awards for “25”, refused to take the trophy.
Adele topped her gracious speech for her album of the year Grammy win with possibly an even more humble act. It was so monumental and well thought-out and attractive and soul-bearing.
“We adore you, you are our light”. In a backstage video from the Grammys, Adele is seen exchanging her broken statue in order to grab a new one. “I always have”, the “Hello” songstress said as Beyonce teared up in the crowd. And then the Hello singer – who was, along with the late David Bowie, the biggest victor at the music awards held at the Staples Center, Los Angeles – used her speech to honour Beyonce. Dressed like a goddess, and cradling her pregnant belly, the singer appeared like a deity being worshipped by her dancers in a religious-style ceremony.
“My dream and my idol is Queen Bey and I adore you and you move my soul every, single day and you have done for almost 17 years”.
The English singer-songwriter said that singer Beyonce Knowles deserved the honour as she makes “black people feel empowered”.
“Like I said in my speech”. She became the first person in Grammy history to win the top three awards twice, following her wins for her last album “21” in 2012.
“And if you’re up for a discussion about the cultural bias and general nerve damage the show you produce suffers from then I’m all for it”. “I felt this album showed another side of her that we haven’t seen and I felt blessed to walk into that situation”.
Adele, Beyoncé and Maren Morris have all seen their sales surge after the Grammys – with some songs rising as much as 6,700%.
