Autosteer Speed Limit Bumped Up, Summon, Auto Lane Change Features Added

That parking feature was also available in the first-generation Autopilot software, and requires several days of calibration while driving at highway speeds before it’s ready for use.

The Tesla driver told police that he had the auto in autopilot mode at the time of the incident, but Phoenix police spokesman Sgt Alan Pfohl said investigators were unable to corroborate that statement. We’ve since seen the company introduce a proper sedan, the Model S, and the Model X crossover. The cars’ Autosteer speed cap is now revved up from 55 miles per hour to 80 miles per hour (after a mandatory sensor recalibration, according to Electrek’s sources). With the 8.1 update, drivers of Autopilot 2 vehicles can tell their cars to change lanes by tapping the turn signal.

As we previously reported, Tesla is now rebuilding its Autopilot features on the new hardware suite introduced in October 2016.

Musk did not say what he meant by “adviser” but in a separate tweet he noted Tesla had “very few” Model 3 orders from China, where the vehicle has not been formally introduced.

The carmaker’s Autopilot system for HW2 enabled-vehicles is being released incrementally throughout the year via a series of over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

Although Autosteer works mechanically, Tesla advises drivers to keep their hands on the wheel so that they can take control at any time.

Cars produced since late-2016 are all fitted with second-generation Autopilot hardware, which will one day be capable of full autonomy, Tesla claims. “In addition to ensuring you reach your intended exit, Autopilot will watch for opportunities to move to a faster lane when you’re caught behind slower traffic”, the company’s website reads.

Being a low-priced auto model, Tesla Model 3 will likely expand the reach of Tesla’s autonomous vehicles in the market.

There’s also a hidden feature lurking within the update, though, as Elon Musk teased on Twitter late last night.

Other updates which were expected to be a part of the 8.1 update have so far been absent. After the update, the Model X users can adjust their seats automatically just by a single click. The new adjustment capability also helps lower the default height of the falcon doors.
