Anthony Joshua stops Wladimir Klitschko with a knockout at Wembley

Fury, 28, is also unbeaten as a professional, with 18 knockouts in 25 fights, but surrendered his world heavyweight titles in an effort to focus on his mental health problems and is now without a boxing licence and out of condition. Congrats to both for giving the fans something to talk about! Big respect to AJ.

Klitschko and Joshua have a two-fight deal, so a rematch may be in the cards if Klitschko wants it. Gotta respect it. Hold ur head high brother! It gets tough and boxing isn’t easy. Sometimes, you can be a phenomenal boxer, but boxing’s about character and when you go to the trenches, that’s how you find out who you really are. Unbelievable fight! So proud of @anthonyfjoshua. I just want to fight everyone.

Singer Robbie Williams: “Incredible x @anthonyfjoshua”.

Anthony Joshua is not afraid of anyone.

After prolonged introductions, where Joshua stood on an airborne platform before his flaming initials and his adoring public, Klitschko – a challenger for the first time since 2006 – immediately sought centre-ring and popped out some left leads.

Sure hardcore fight fans splashed out to watch a Klitschko pay-per-view but that was never going to be as lucrative a revenue stream for the Ukrainian siblings as it was for the charismatic risk-takers who came before them and put on shows.

Joshua weighed in at 250.1 pounds, while Klitschko weighed in at 240.5 pounds. “Hope there’s a rematch”, tweeted the 69-year-old Austrian-born star. He might say “that’s me done”, or he might say “let’s go again”.

TV presenter Eamonn Holmes said: “Well that was a scrap and a Half!”

“This guy has had 18 professional fights and, although he won Olympic gold, he hardly has any amateur experience compared some of these other seasoned guys”.

Hearn added: “Anthony Joshua is learning on the job”.

Phase three, he said, would be the big-money defences around the globe. “Great fight! #bigupyourself ====== =Y=Y=Y”. However his defeat of Klitschko, which also earned him the WBA title, came after he had had to prove his heart by recovering from an exceptionally-heavy sixth-round knockdown.

“Such an wonderful fight with 2 great fighters”. Klitschko what an effort. “A lot of questions answered by @anthonyfjoshua #JoshuaKlitchsko”. Love Klitschko. Humble to the core. England is like a second home to me.

A jubilant Joshua leapt atop the ropes, with the massive audience in a frenzy. Feel for Klitschko, great champ.

The feud between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua went up another notch on Sunday, after the self-styled “Gypsy King” said he was ready to “spank” the current champion. Awesome, but that looked hard work watching.
